Sulla (Hedysarum coronarium L.): A Sustainable Legume Specie Used for Forage in the Agroecological Living Landscape of Tunisia.

This report contains information about Mali's agricultural sector, and breeds of small ruminants in Mali, reproduction system, production parameters of small ruminants in traditional system, constraints to the production systems and the role of small ruminants in the livelihoods of smallholder producers.

This workshop is based on CGIAR Regional Integrated Initiative F2R-CWANA WP5. The workshop sets itself the task of answering this question: “What kind of Climate Information Data and Services do participants need to manage climate risks in the CWANA region, in particular in Uzbekistan?” The consultative seminar within the framework of WP5 coincides with World Soil Day and World Mountain Day, which is celebrated jointly with the Committee of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the development of the Aral Sea region.

Intervention Landscape of the CGIAR Agroecology Initiative in El Rhahla Region – Siliana District/Tunisian Agroecological Living Landscape.

Hydroponic forage production is a viable option to provide farmers with a source of highly palatable forage at times of the year when other sources are not available. However, hydroponic forage production systems are often expensive to purchase and run and highly technologic, which makes repairing them complicated. In addition, they normally need to be connected to a source of electricity, reducing the places where they can be installed. In this report, we present a low-cost and off-the-grid solution that, coupled with elite genotypes selected for forage productivity, can produce 150-200kg of fresh barley forage every 7 days.

An outline of Evidence of scaling and/or of impact

The objective of this report is to analyze, mapping and select the main value chains with potential to integrate the agroecological principles in Tunisia. Based on the secondary data, rapid value chain analysis, focus group discussions at the living labs and participatory approach with the main stakeholders, three value chains were identified in Siliana and Kef governorates: olive oil, sheep meat and honey. The VC assessment according to agroecological principles conducted with the main actors places the olive oil VC as the major value chain with agroecological character. In this sense, an olive oil business model was proposed to encourage the olive producers of SMSA to produce a labeled olive oil to improve their revenues, enhance livelihoods and create a system of values that includes land (terroir).
